Devotions for Dancers: Waiting on God to Save You

January 11, 2018

Are you waiting on God to save you?

A fellow was stuck on his rooftop in a flood. He was praying to God for help.

Soon a man in a rowboat came by and the fellow shouted to the man on the roof, "Jump in, I can save you."
The stranded fellow shouted back, "No, it's OK, I'm praying to God and he is going to save me."
So the rowboat went on.

Then a motorboat came by. "The fellow in the motorboat shouted, "Jump in, I can save you."
To this the stranded man said, "No thanks, I'm praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith."
So the motorboat went on.

Then a helicopter came by and the pilot shouted down, "Grab this rope and I will lift you to safety."
To this the stranded man again replied, "No thanks, I'm praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith."
So the helicopter reluctantly flew away.

Soon the water rose above the rooftop and the man drowned. He went to Heaven. He finally got his chance to discuss this whole situation with God, at which point he exclaimed, "I had faith in you but you didn't save me, you let me drown. I don't understand why!"

To this God replied, "I sent you a rowboat and a motorboat and a helicopter, what more did you expect?"

Oh this was so me. I was waiting on God to save me and missed Him every time.

I wasn’t pursuing God but He was pursuing me. I can look back at my life and see poignant moments where the rowboat, the motorboat and the helicopter came and I was oblivious to them being the answer I was seeking.
One time, I can look back and see God pursuing me and me, missing the boat…..was in prison. I was called to the “picket” (a booth-like place in the dorm where I was housed). I was told that the Chaplain was there to see me. Typically, the only time the Chaplain came to see someone, was to tell them that a family member had passed away. So, my heart sank and I was preparing for the news of a parent or child’s death.

When I got out to him, he asked me if I wanted to be one of his trustees. What?????? That is unheard of in the prison I was in.

However, due to my ignorance and addiction, I had just got a Thorazine hook-up and declined his offer.
Missing the boat……….

Can you look back at your life and see the countless times that He has sent that boat…and you missed it?
He is always in hot pursuit of us, Precious ones.

The rowboat, the motorboat and the helicopter may not look like, exactly what you are waiting for or expecting, but you can be assured, that it is Jesus, sending out the search party for you.

Don’t miss the boat…….He wants to bring you out of the desert into His Promiseland. Out of that relationship that is not healthy, out of that living situation that is dangerous, out of the addiction that has overtaken you, out of that depression that consumes you......He has a boat waiting for you.

Exodus 14:13 “That is how the LORD rescued Israel from the hand of the Egyptians that day. And the Israelites saw the bodies of the Egyptians washed up on the seashore.”

I am sure that the Israelites had NO idea that is how they would be rescued
